If having the church meant having each other, I didn't want any part of it. I met the worst kind of people with religion. The idea of god naturally made me want to puke.

I was raised catholic, went to a christian youth group thing for a while with a friend who suddenly turned fundamentalist sometime in junior high...but none of it really stuck with me. Mostly i just didn't really buy into it. I don't think less of people who do believe...it's just not for me.

Because I believe that Jesus was a real person, but not the son oh God or divine in anyway. I do believe in the idea of a 'god' though.

- because the bible is an astro-theological/literary hybrid plagiarized from a ton of different stories predating the life of jesus christ.

- the fact that christianity has kept people ignorant and caused such a slow pace with important scientific research and discovery.

even as a little kid i never felt comfortable in a church or hearing anyone get all preachy to me. that started it.

i think christianity in modern times has shot itself in the foot. everyone picks and chooses what rules they follow and what ideals to believe in, kind of spoiling the whole point of being religious to begin with. plus, have you ever read the bible? it is insane to think people really believe that stuff. so i guess not wanting to be likened to hypocrites and a general disbelief in the "word of god" are my reasons

oh and the religious right is the most insane political group in the universe

1. Compulsory love of a being that I must also fear at every turn. I don't know what thats like, and I don't ever want to know what thats like.

2. Morality, ethics and good all came to me without the teachings of Christ. I don't do good because I think I may be rewarded by god, nor do I restrain from bad because I fear punishment from him. I do both because I'm a human being with a mind that has endless potential for understanding of good and evil without being scared into it. Are the religious moral when they say they do things mainly for punishment/reward at their death?

3. Even in the elementary, incredibly feeble understanding I have of our earth, our universe, our species, I still find them much more awe inspiring, fascinating and humbling than any story about an invisible man or burning bushes. Christianity is simply not needed for me to understand anything about myself or the world around us. And I submit, it's not needed for anyone.

Theres a ton of other reasons.

Being a Christian has sure kept me down. I got a great job, beautiful wife, amazing friends/family etc....

What I find funny is that most of the people on here who are anti God complain more about life then those who believe in God

I think that has a lot more to do with what YOU have accomplished rather than what God has helped you achieve.

Yeah life is pretty easy in 2009.

What about all the countless wars over religion and christianity in the history of mankind?

I'm just sayin.

Yeah, if there wasn't religion we would still have something to fight over (ie. land, power), still a lot of pointless bloodshed and it's still going on today.

So you respect the power of Islam and its influence on people to fly planes into our buildings, strap bombs to themselves and walk into subways?

so? what does that prove? that this magical god favors those who believe in "him"? riiiiiiight.

i don't believe any part of the christian faith (and haven't since i was very young) because it is just so insanely illogical. it dumbfounds me that even some of the most intelligent people on this planet truly believe in something so ridiculous. furthermore, i think christianity is a crutch for those who fear death. sometimes i wish i could buy into it, just so i wouldn't be so goddamn afraid of losing my life someday. however, i can't base my life around such an asinine ideology. it's a well written story and all but i just can't do it.
