Biography:
Drive three hours west of Detroit and you'll end up in Grand Rapids, a Michigan city often unwittingly forgotten due to the rich musical history of its counter part to the east. It isn't that Grand Rapids never had a growing scene, a point well proven by the recent signing of Still Remains to the metal behemoth Roadrunner Records. It's just taken a band like Still Remains to put Grand Rapids on the map.
"I got turned on to heavy music when I was in high school," states band frontman T.J. Miller. It's quite a contrast listening to Still Remains' music and then witnessing the vocalist's calm demeanor as he reflects back on his introduction to bands like Metallica and the Deftones. Inspired by those bands, Miller began the journey that would acquaint him with other young musicians from his hometown. Musicians with the same drive and passion he had - to write creative, heavy music. Completed three years ago with the addition of Jordan Whelan on guitar, Evan Willey on bass, Zach Roth on keyboards and A.J. Barrette on drums, Still Remains was formed.
"Over the time Still Remains has been around we have gotten our heads together more as musicians," the young vocalist surmises. "Our music makes more sense now. It's still experimental but it's aggressive and it's tighter this time." The band's EP If Love Was Born To Die was released in the summer of 2004 with limited distribution but it landed in the hands of Roadrunner Records' A&R rep Mike Gitter. "From the minute I saw them hit stage, Still Remains just had it," states Gitter. "The passion, the conviction, a sense of musical granduer and lyrical desperation. Six people working toward a sound as inspirational as it is angry and powerful."
Scheduled to enter the studio with producer GGGarth (Rage Against The Machine, Kittie etc) this Fall, Still Remains will have the opportunity to define themselves on record for the world to hear come Spring 2005. Still Remains approaches modern heavy music with their own style - mixing venomous aggression and emotional, melodic affectations. The band is relentless in mastering their approach and continues to build music that will become the soundtrack to a whole new generation of soon-to-be music fans.
