The whole reason the NHL bought the team was to keep them where they are. Don't expect them to be moving. The NHL wants to sell to a buyer that will keep them in the area.
I don't agree with it, in fact this is downright stupid, but that is the situation.

the nhl isnt going to allow 2 franchises in toronto, that's stupid. they'll have to pay the fucking leafs all kinds of loot for violating their territory. same with hamilton... that's like a pro team moving into allentown and the flyers being cool with it. stupid. it makes sense to move the team back to winnipeg where they belong. everything about the jets ruled.

The whole Phoenix Coyotes saga with Jim Balsille attempting to buy the team and move them to Hamilton was all over the sports news seemingly every fucking day for the last six months, got pretty annoying.
Best locations would be Winnipeg or Quebec City. I think a team could definitely thrive in Hamilton, there's more than enough of a market out there. But Hamilton's a bit of a dump, I'd rather see a team in Winnipeg or Quebec City again before Hamilton.

How is that stupid? Hamilton is like a two hour drive away from Toronto, if my memory serves me correct. There's nowhere near as many major cities in Canada as there are in the States, so we have somewhat limited options. Hamilton should definitely be considered eventually, just not before Winnipeg or Quebec City.

I live in Hamilton, and there's no way an NHL franchise would survive here. Copps Coliseum is located in the worst place, surrounded by unemployed crackheads/teen mothers & dead beat dads. The AHL Hamilton Bulldogs won the Calder a few years back and only had respectable attendance in the final game. Compare that to London or Kitchener whose minor/junior teams are near sellouts everynight. Ontario doesn't need another NHL team, either put one in Quebec or central Canada.

I imagine they would build a new arena in Hamilton. Is there not other towns surrounding Hamilton?
Even Mississauga could probably support a team.

They were basically just going to tear it down and rebuild it in the same location. The designs looked pretty good I'll admit, but I could only image how long it would take for windows to be broken and it being covered by taggers.
Mississauga could support a team I'd imagine, but that's even closer to Toronto so that would be a problem.
