since we're on the subject of covers... what songs are you covering in bands, or if you're just working on learning something in general, specify.

ones that we've got down:
Infest - Sick-O (LOVE doing Infest vocals!)
Infest - Plastic
Carcass - Genital Grinder

future projects:
Leatherface - Winning
Disrupt - A Life's A Life
Carcass - anything else off of Reek Of Putrefaction

for myself, I wanna teach myself every Kreator song off of Endless Pain.

lol! another great contribution. eat a dick.

Infest is fun to play and Mankind is pretty much a perfect 10". we discussed whether the awesomeness of Infest outweighed the level of originality in covering them, and it did.

thanks for the suggestion. in the future I'll make sure to put more time into making sure a band is obscure enough before thinking about playing something I enjoy.

doing some covers early on is good discipline when you haven't played in a lot of bands and playing a couple of them live can help fill up a set list when you haven't had the time to write a lot of songs together and you wanna do a few shows. not everyone can be as groundbreaking in their demo stage as legends like Manifest Dysentery.

And if you're going to do a cover it makes sense to do a relatively well-known and well-liked song. There was a short-lived but awesome punk band in Boston called "Stray Bullets" and I suggested to my friends that we cover them once, but our drummer said, "If we cover them people will just think we wrote the songs--and we'll have to explain to them that it's a cover." No matter how good a band is at song writing and their instruments when they cover a classic like War Pigs or something REALLY WELL the most frequent complement is always about the cover. That's just the way it is.

I don't ever post in here, because I don't consider myself a musician, but I'm working out my own version of "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke and "At Last" by Etta James for my sister's future wedding. I will be singing/playing both.

my denim jacket is a 1976 Phoenix denim and is an heirloom from my dad who wore it in the 70's and it's exactly my size. that's legit enough for me.

monday night football theme. not the "are you ready for some football song", but the orchestral opening song that plays a lot during the game.

that's what's truly important.

So far I've recorded a few Opeth covers like "When" and "Funeral Portrait" and "Dirge for November." They came out okay but kind of haphazard. I think I could re-do them a lot better now. I did a nice cover of Amon Amarth's "Runes to my Memory" which I am really happy with. I want to challenge myself and do "Windowpane" which is really slow and jazzy. But I swear I know all the parts. (Yes, I know to use a capo on the 2nd fret) I will actually use a real bass guitar this time. I do not have a drum kit so I use an old Alesis SR-16 for drums. I use a Zoom H4 to record, I really like that little bugger.
