If you are interested in the topic, you should read 'The World Without Us,' namely the chapter on plastic, where you can learn about the 'decomposing' plastic in the gyre and how all animals on earth may one day - literally or as a side effect of food-chain disruption - choke to death on nurdles.

i watched a guy eat a twix bar at a stop light and just throw the wrapper right out the window while staring at me. his wife was also holding their new born baby in the front seat. no car seat, no seatbelts for anyone involved.
Had a friend that did a report for college about recycling. He claimed that something like forty percent of it ended up in landfills in India. I'm not sure how true this is but I guess anything is possible.
