Oh man I wish I knew the perfect ingredient. I have Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, have used Babbel, and also take online classes. Duolingo you should absolutely download. It won't teach you the language but it's good to practice small lessons every day and reinforce vocabulary. Rosetta Stone is ok, but I don't really like their teaching method and find it hard to use without a base of the language. Now that I am A2 level in german, I find it much easier to use. An in person class is the absolute best way, but obviously I know that there's really not a lot of time for that stuff. Basically you really, really need to force yourself to speak it and practice thinking in the language. So if you go the Rosetta Stone route, make sure you take advantage of the live tutoring lessons. They are awkward and stuff, but it forces you to think through what you've learning and speak it.
