I want to see this to the end, but it can be a struggle.

this was ok but a little thin. good cast but all mostly playing to type. if this is the pilot of a series click here for link, they would probably have been better off doing it all as a cable series just for depth.

New HBO/David Simon pilot was good, definitely way better than that show Treme that white douchebags seemed to like so much, probably for its upbeat white jazzy blues and bluesy jazz and because they identified with Steve Zahn's cloying King Douchebag character. If that one put you off Simon, this one might bring you back. Familiar faces from The Wire, Homicide, etc.

Watching this on Netflix while waiting for GoT & so far pretty good. Great cast, writing, etc., but would watch just to see the 22 year old Clémence Poésy get her French ass smashed.

lol Holy shit the second part of this is ridiculously awful. It's like if they brought in someone's 'creative' high school drama teacher and they said, "Hey guys, let's have all the major characters break the fourth wall and talk directly to the camera." Robert Carlyle pulls it off because he's, well, Robert Carlyle, but everyone else is pretty embarrassingly hilarious, and not on purpose.

The first part is still decent as a standalone film though.

I really thought it was going to be horrible and was against it being made from the beginning. I hate the idea of remakes and trying to recreate Tim Curry's version of Pennywise was going to be no easy task. However, I have to eat crow on this. It was really good. Few changes from the book but with the best interest of modern audience and non-book readers in mind. Thankfully they left out the kid gangbang scene because that would have been awkward and not necessary for the film. It's barely necessary in the book. Great pacing and tension. Some CGI I didn't like but nothing too jarring. Skaarsgard is solid as Pennywise. Played the character different than Curry, which was a smart move.

Glad to hear they didn't drop the ball on this.

Tim Curry's career is always a little depressing to think about. He was great in almost everything he did, but he never seemed to get the roles he deserved. Anyone that sees Rocky Horror sees a perfect, genius performance in a perfect, genius film (which definitely should never have been remade), with shades of a young Peter O'Toole or John Hurt. By the time he was doing Fish Police (a high point actually) he had surrendered to being typecast. He probably should have stayed in England.
