some other part of that show or documentary or whatever it might be called shows wally talking to an umpire in a game after this (more about throwing bats on the field, but mentions what started it) and i guess this umpire just doesn't like that the batter isn't happy with the calls. on the second pitch the batter drops his hands and looks back, but it doesn't look like a big deal. dude probably just casually said "that's a little low" or something. i'm not even sure what happens on the third pitch when he gets ejected because it wasn't a strike, so i cant imagine what the actual discrepancy would be.
i heard "that's a little low" probably 10 times a game when i worked. you just say "nah, that's right there" and then move on.
also, that umpire doesn't really have "the look" to fit in independent pro baseball, and the speed of the game and the way guys work easily passes up a lot of amateur umpires when they jump in there. most guys working those leagues went to pro school and it's generally younger guys or ones working upper level college ball. they also don't move their head when tracking the ball, which is an amateur move. on that 0-2 pitch that he calls a ball, you can see his mask in the corner and it drops right before you hear the ball hit the glove. trying to track 90+ mph pitches doesn't work if you do that.
