Yeah, I don't know about all that. People definitely need to be more civil to people generally and Sid and Whiskey specifically in these discussion threads, but that doesn't mean giving the Republican party a reach-around.

Talking to people without trying to degrade them personally doesn't mean giving the ideas floated more credibility than deserved in some Aristotelian averaging, it just means not venting on the people floating them. That's just lazy. But there's nothing wrong with taking apart the ideas if they are unsound. That's to be expected.

The Republican platform is a collection of such ideas. Even if Democrats and Republicans have the same ratio of shitty people to decent people, in terms of theory, platforms, and agendas, the Republican platform outlaps the Democratic platform in shittiness by miles. What is going on right now on the Southwest border is not the function of an 'anomaly', it is just the honest articulation of the Republican platform regarding immigration and brown people. The same is true with respect to everything from subverting women's rights to undermining environmental issues and science itself, to dropping support for Ukraine after Russia annexed Crimea, to cutting funding for Planned Parenthood, to supporting a child molester in an election, etc. Anyone who calls themself a Republican considers none of those things 'deal-breakers', and thus tacitly supports all of them when in lockstep to the party.

So no, some specific Democratic Party candidate may be a douchebag, but in 2018 there are never any decent reasons to vote for a Republican, even if you are unaffiliated like me, at least not with respect to how decency is usually defined.

ok but then you would be the first person to chastise me if I were to vote for a Republican presidential candidate (not Trump since he is an anomaly) since typically they are more beneficial towards a business...especially small business.

That is definitely the projected popular narrative, but there are some economists that are beginning to challenge it. The short term interests of the very wealthy definitely tend to be served by other very wealthy politicos, who tend to be Republican in 2018, but whether or not that trickles down class strata to the lower 90% or leads to long term prosperity is open to debate. If you want to take a break from the braintrust here, this guy articulates it way better than I ever could:

I have my buddy Hoeger who is a great guy and i love him to death. But outside of those people and my neighbor who is helping me record some black metal on his four track I keep to myself. I still have more non riding friends in Texas both guys and girls who I trust and talk to on a daily basis. Up here I trust no one, and generally hate people who I feel are untrustworthy.
