Between The Buried And Me - Alaska

After being not overly impressed with their last release "The Silent Circus", I wasn't expecting much of this release. Well, again this week I was wrong. This is possibly one of the best metalcore releases of the year this far, and in my opinion the content (not including a few dull parts) is even better than their first self titled release.

Their quality and innovation has risen to new levels, in almost every category. The brutality has been kicked up a notch but also has the interludes and the up-tempo twisting technical parts.

They start out with "All Bodies", which starts out simple and over the course of the song gets a little crazier. The CD varies in tempos and styles but manages to tie it all together and make it have an atmosphere instead of being choppy. The next song of note is the title track "Alaska", a song that samples pretty much every style of underground music out now. But probably the best track is also the longest - "Selkies, The Endless Obsession" - an epic track also covering all the bases soundwise.

If you are expecting a copy of "The Silent Circus" when listening to this, you will be pleasently suprised. All in all this is an excellent release, despite a few parts that are a little long and dragged out. If you have ever been a fan of this band, you should check this out.

i really need to give this band a chance. Their first album i was not into, mostly because the clean vocals were much to whiny for my tastes, but musically, from what ive heard of them lately, is pretty damn good.
