Circa Survive - On Letting Go

This is one of those "guilty pleasure" bands for me.

This album is seriously incredible. From pulsing, four-on-the-floor dance beats with melodic vocals to trance-like Mars Volta-esque drum 'n' bass atmosphere rock, this album covers all bases in its genre, even though I don't know exactly what I'd call this genre. Circa Survive are the only band in it that isn't an annoying, cliche post-hardcore pile of shit with unoriginal, whiny lyrics.

The production on this album slays their previous release "Juturna" with an obvious effort to "man up" the vocals and clear up the sometimes muddy guitar riffs that are so complex and delayed that in Juturna it was sometimes difficult to hear exactly what the hell they were even playing. This album is much different, with the guitars trading lead from riff to riff through each song, giving a much more pronounced "feel" change throughout the album.

This album took a few listens to really grow on me but now I see it as a clear and decisive leap ahead of Juturna, which was one of the best albums in my collection until this release date hit the stores. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone bored with their current album line-up. It's a breath of melodic fresh air.

I really like the album. I found it in ear x tacy at a listening station. And next to it was another great album by maserati. And above that was the new Battles album. Mirror or Mirrored. Both were instrumental and amazing.

I liked Juturna, so I'll probably check this one out eventually.

maybe this cd is better but I hate the music and the only redeeming quality is the vocalist reminds me of luke skywalker.

this day forward was good but lacked interest-holding factors to a great extent. Everything that was perfect about them is still there. Plus, TDF was one of the worst live shows I've ever seen...but then again it was their last tour and I could tell they pretty much didn't give a shit.
