Donnybrook - The Beast Inside

5 years ago, we saw the release of Los Angeles hardcore band Donnybrooks cd "Lions in This Game" which could be argued as being quite possibly one of the best modern hardcore records back then. It's hard to believe it took the band 5 years to write another record, but after listening through it a few times, the wait was definitely worth it.

The first song starts out with a bunch of jumbled up samples for a good minute before the band begins a pummeling intro before going into the next track. It's soon very obvious that the band has progressed exponentially in those 5 years. The band has adapted a more early 90's style hardcore which works for them a lot better than the sound they achieved with Lions In This Game.

The album chugs along at a pretty steady pace with no gimmicky parts or anything that wasn't needed. Donnybrook knew what needed to be done to make sure that their fans got what they wanted and maybe even a little more in this 5 year wait. One of the highlights of the album for me was Soothsayer, where the vocals changed up from a rap style during the verses and more of a Slapshot-esque style during the choruses.

If you want an old school style hardcore album, then look no further because this is the album for you, and might even cap out as my #1 favorite album of the fall.

Way better then their older material, I like the direction they've gone in.
