So far, everything I've heard from this band prior to this release has been very boring, mediocre cookie cutter death metal. So when I heard the song "Freaking On The Mutilated" off this new album on their website, I was pretty damn floored. Luckily the album didn't disappoint me.

To cut to the chase, this album owns. It's fast as hell, the drums are relentless and extremely tight, and it screams FORWARD. Hardly ever does this album wander, it draws you in and keeps your attention throughout the whole album. The guitars completely tear through you the instant you hear it, they're extremely fast and the riffs just have a very present and active feel to them, as if something very intense and atrocious is happening at the moment that you're listening to it. Their drummer is a total madman! It's a good thing this band decided to stop sucking ass so this drummer could finally get some recognition, his blasts are like a gat and he's excellent at consistency. I think that instrumentally they're the highlight of the album. Also, there are some very S1QQQ and EV1L solos on this album.

My only gripe would have to be the vocals. I've never been a fan of gurgled vocals, and by gurgled I mean gurgled so much that they almost sound like high end screaming. Maybe they'll just have to grow on me. There are some nice backup vocals from time to time; I found myself hoping that they'd use them a bit more often to keep the vocals from sounding monotonous.

Track 9 is a sweet ambient instrumental... it could have gotten very cheesy -- ok, so it still kind of did -- but I like it a lot, and it picks up a sad epic feel as sounds come in of a girl being hacked up by something unhuman. Fun shit.

Anyone who'd written this band off like myself should go out and buy this album, you will be very pleasantly surprised. If you like brutal, breakneck fast gore metal, pick this up and snap your neck headbanging, this album rules.

Also, I forgot to mention that I think this band's name still sucks. This album does own, though.

This is my 4th review I've done.. I did the Axis Of Perdition review that's on the main page, and I reviewed Strapping Young Lad and Six Feet Under too. Brickhouse made an official reviewer about a month ago.

I thought the previous album would have been ok without the vocals too.

eric, you really hit the nail on the head with this review. this album rules, but the vocals get extremely monotonous after a few songs... almost makes me want to turn the cd off
