Rumpelstiltskin Grinder - Buried in the Front Yard

I have never really considered myself to be a huge fan of metal. By no means am I an afficionado of an sort. However, I do have a sturdy knowledge of metal and appreciate it immensely. Every once in a while, I'll stumble across an incredible death metal album I like a lot or a really solid doom release. Such is the case with Rumpelstiltskin Grinder's "Buried in the Front Yard".

This disc has completely reopened my eyes to the existence and possiblities of thrash. Just when you think a genre of music is reaching the tail-end of its evolution, RsG comes in and give it a stiff kick in the asshole with 8 songs that will leave you feeling raped, murdered, raped after you've been murdered, and than strangely in love.

Matt Moore and Ryan Moll's unbelievable guitar talent really comes alive in this release. I've never been one for showmanship, but these guys are undeniably two of the best players I've seen/heard in a long time. Patrick Battaglia provides the beats, and he does it with bone-crushing force. I truly solid, tight performance on his part. Shawn Riley shares the same passion for whikey as he does for his bass playing. Trust me I've drank on several occassions with him.....it's almost sexual. Last but certainly not least, Eli Shaika delivers the vocals the way only he is capable of....with his ass. Just kidding. With song titles like "the Day Merman met Todd 'the Harpoon' Wilson", you can't go wrong. Eli's lyrics are witty and fun but don't let that discredit their quality. The lyrics are one of the most important facets of Rumpelstiltskin Grinder. They tell the story behind the thrash, and Eli has a great time bringing them to you.

This is a solid release and I think its going to take these guys somewhere.

Pre-order it @ www.relapse.com.

Don't miss out on this CD. It's too damn good.

I wonder if this review will be the inverse of all the other review threads: scenesters actually check out this band and call them gay for not having breakdowns while we all defend them.
