Most Precious Blood - Do Not Resuscitate

It seems like an eternity ago since the band Most Precious Blood has been talked about. Hell, the last time the band released an album was nearly 6 years ago. Their mysterious departure didn’t make matters any better. A band, who seemingly wrote the book on touring just disappeared back in 2006 without as much as an explanation. Not even so much as a good-bye. I think it was sometime in 2007 the band had put online some oddly worded statement about not wanting to conform to industry standards that their record label was bestowing upon them. It didn’t do much to answer questions. In fact it seemed to stir up more than before. We still had no answer as to if Most Precious Blood was done, taking much needed time off, or were they preparing a new album.

Then I guess it was 2008, the information that a new album called “Do Not Resuscitate” was being worked on. No song titles, no other information. Again more questions seemed to pop up. Was this some unrecorded material that was getting a final once-over before finally be recorded and released to the masses with a tongue-in-cheek title? Only the 5 band members knew the deal.

It’s been 3 years since the announcement of this record and 2 years since a photo of someone holding a CD-R with the words “MPR-DNR 1-19-09 Final Mixes” and finally the album is here. Was it worth the wait? I’m not quite sure but atleast the record rules.

Nothing In Vain and Our Lady Of Annihilation will always make their ways into my stereo or on my iPod. Those records are now classics in my eyes. For a band that has members with a back catalog of all the great Indecision records and the two good One King Down discs, I think the first two MPB albums definitely carry their weight. The band’s last outing in Merciless was a more forgettable release for me. Maybe I was burnt out on the band or maybe just in period in my life, musically, that the record just went in one ear and out the other.

I’ve sat on this review for a while thinking how I would describe its sound. With Do Not Resuscitate, MPB has come back with a ferocity that cannot be described it needs to be heard. In the interest of fairness, the album reminds me a lot of what was delivered in OLOA but with more attitude and sans clean vocals. The album goes right for the throat from the opening track and does not let up until the end, only taking a 2 minute break for an acoustic song at track 10. If I told someone to come back with a good album of pissed off melodic and metallic hardcore, I would hope they would return with this.

My only problem may lie in the fact that this may be too little too late for Most Precious Blood. It’s been nearly 6 years since new material has been release and 5 years since they detached themselves completely from the music world. With all the hype going into all the Indecision “reunion” shows over the last few years, does anyone really care about Most Precious Blood anymore? Will this effort reignite the fire? For me personally, it did. I can’t stop listening to this record and definitely want to see them live again. But I have a small feeling in my gut that I may fall in the minority with my feelings. I hope I’m wrong.

Even if you still hold that mentality of “I’d rather see Indecision play more shows / get back together” atleast check this record out. If not for nothing, you will have an awesome disc of 11 great tracks. This comes highly recommended.

I feel the same exact way about Merciless and it is a shame they never really struck while the iron was hot to capitalize on Our Lady.

Been listening to this all day, I hope they're touring on this album release.

They're playing shows but I don't know how much of "touring" they are doing.

i guess the touring hit a stand still because they live between new york, philly and dc. it would be nice to see them on a few shows this summer. something like, i dunno, east coast tsunami.
