Electric Wizard - Black Masses

Once again Electric Wizard take us on a heavy ride through foggy Dorset, England surrounded by tons of swirly effects and solos. Typical of these stoner/sludge champions. "Black Masses" shows even more reverb on singer Jus Oborns vocals not to mention the always over the top reverb and effects on every other instrument. For almost 2 decades these bong smoking veterans have been pumping out some of the most monumental riffs of the genre and haven't lost a step yet.

Much like there last album "Witchcult Today" the music is much more upbeat then the older albums. The vocals are much clearer and nowhere as brutal as on classics like "Dopethrone" or "Come My Fanatics". Which some veteran fans will possibly dislike but others like myself have grown to love. What never changes is their consistency to pulverize the same riff into your soul until you bang your head straight off. With songs like "Night Child" or "Scorpio Curse" that use the Wizard formula of having the same riff as the base then blasting you with tons of guitar effects and solos. Both I'm sure will become cult classics in no time. Then as always they do not leave out a track like the last "Crypt of Drugula" of straight effects and drone. Which lets you get stuck in a vortex of no return to reality or sobriety for that matter.

For some this might not be to your liking considering it's not Dopethrone, but for others that aren't as stubborn I believe you'll throughly enjoy Black Masses. A solid stoner album with all the reverb, effects, sludge, and rockin sabbath worship any fan could easily grow to love. Although you may never get up to change the record since you've melted into your couch.

The album needs a good sound system to do it justice. Anyone listening to it on some shitty laptop-speakers is fucking up.

There's been rumors and they mentioned trying to work it out the interview with Decibel or Terrorizer. I forget which one of those two mentioned touring. If they never do, I'm gonna end up spending way to much money to catch them in the next few years over in Europe.
