Nunfuckritual - In Bondage To The Serpent

Nunfuckritual are a supergroup in the metal world. Members of Mayhem, Altaar, Tyrant, Nuclear Assault, and Brutal Truth have been piecing together this album since 2006. Some of it was recorded in Norway, some in America. To complicate things even further there were contributions made from Budapest by Mayhem's Attila Csihar and Ravn. In 2011 this clusterfuck finally released their album "In Bondage To The Serpent."

Right from the start it is blatantly clear that Nunfuckritual is a black metal band. The depressing droning mood starts with the first notes of "Theotokos" and carries on through the title track. Throughout is pretty typical black metal elements with a slight doom influence. The dark and haunting feel with slow vocals that sound like a fucking German ghost seem expected. The long minutes where it seems nothing happens on a track are the most painful. I understand that this is the nature of the genre, but Nunfuckritual just aren't doing anything for me.

Listening to shit like this makes doing reviews really feel like a job. I picked this up because it had been sitting for over a month in the review pool and figured I'd just get it done since no one else touched it. Unfortunately this record is pretty useless in my hands. I get the feeling that this record would be determined good by its target audience, but that isn't me. Having said that, I don't even hate this, but after one seven minute track I am bored out of my mind.
