Chained/In Fidelity - split

Here's the debut from two new Nashville bands, In Fidelity and Chained. Their split on Spaghetti Spaghetti Records has two songs from each, and is up for free download on the label's site.

All four tunes are good, though my preference is for the In Fidelity tracks. The first one, "All Along" is fast and dance-able, and reminds me of stuff coming out of Boston around 2000. The second song, "Calloused," starts out just as fast, then slows down into a jam that kind of feels like an outro, slowing down to single strings, before coming back for a heavy, slow breakdown that works surprisingly well.

Chained is a bit heavier, with a darker sound, lower vocals and a bit more melody up front. Their first track, "Choke," shows off some pretty rad guitar work; the two guitarists play well off each other. Their second song, "Headcase," is slower and heavier than "Choke" and is good for the most part. It takes a sharp turn halfway through, into a melodic bridge with muted background shouted vocals, and kinda loses me.

Good record overall; a solid debut for both of these bands.
