Jowls - Cursed

Jowls is a three-piece band from Grand Rapids, Michigan featuring former members of Victor! Fix The Sun. The band initially began as a two piece and recently added the former bassist of Cloud Mouth to their roster, giving the band that full, punchy sound. "Cursed", the followup to the "Cunt Punch EP", is 13 minutes of 90's influenced post hardcore with a hint of screamo here and there.

The sound is reminiscent to bands like Orchid and Hot Cross, with very chaotic, discordant passages. The emotion evoked on these 5 songs is actually exhausting to the listener. I recall drifting into an incredibly bad mood after listening to the EP for no reason other then being influenced by the album's dark vibe. I say all of this in a good way, as Jowls is angry and emotional, and want you to know it.

Screamo influenced post hardcore is all the rage these days, so its refreshing to see amongst a shit ton of Touche Amore wannabes is a band doing things a little old school. "Cursed" is available for preorder through Doghouse Records.
