For those unaware, former members of Toronto based sludge band Our Father joined together to play some hardcore/rock and roll/punk hybrid shit. To spice things up, they added Chris Colohan of Cursed. I will start things off by saying this album fucking rocks.
The followup to 2010's "Songs For Burning Lovers", "Rotten Thing To Say" blazes through 14 tracks in 34 minutes and not one second lets up the assault. These guys find a way to blend together multiple genres and not sound like some other blackened hardcore or Southern metalcore band. Colohan's vocals are some of the best the hardcore scene has ever had and that statement is backed up on this album. Another gem from Kurt Ballou and Godcity Studios, Ballou's recording and mixing prowess gives this album that solid low end that punches the listener in the stomach.
Opening track "No Love" contains my new YES riff and pummels you from start to finish. Plenty of groovy rock solos are found throughout and probably could suck in your classic rock loving father if you really tried. I feel this band flew under the radar with their last release, but with Southern Lord Records handling U.S. distribution, expect to see alot more from Burning Love. "Rotten Thing To Say" is released June 19th, 2012.
