Review:
Just When You Thought This Was Over. It's Just Begun!!! New Jersey's For The Love Of is back with a new record after pretty much an eternity since their last release. While "Not On My Watch" marks the return for the band it also serves as the debut of, Burnt By The Sun vocalist, Mike Oleander taking the roll of frontman for the group.
Someone seriously forgot to tell that FTLO that it wasn't cool to write a metalcore album that sounds like it was plucked straight from the mid-nineties. Either that or they just didn't care about current trends. Whatever way you slice it, it's a great thing that they decided to crank out an album that sounds exactly like For The Love Of should. Listening to this record took me straight back to the days of Feasting On The Will Of Humanity and watching people get annihilated while they were playing.
I'm sure there are a lot of people that will read this review and have no who For The Love Of is, that's a shame. For those who don't know I'd lump them into the metalcore styling of bands like Turmoil, Coalesce, and Deadguy. The metal is more the focus but the hardcore backbone remains in tack.
Outside of the band staying true to form, I'm mostly in awe about Mike Oleander now singing for them. I had the pleasure of seeing the reunion show a few years ago and I was blown away by not on his stage presence but how well his vocals meshed with the band. The recorded version of that harmony sounds utterly amazing. Oleander is one of my favorite vocalists out there and if he's not going to be singing for Burnt By The Sun, I'm glad he decided to sing for a band like FTLO.
If you were around to really appreciate the days of the mid to late 90's metalcore scene you will fully appreciate this record. If you were a fan of For The Love Of you will appreciate this record. Hit the band up on their MySpace page to obtain a copy of this record (it's self released) and prepare for the massiveness.
