Review:
When I saw new Edguy in my pile, I immediately became stoked to pop this into my stereo. I go through a power metal phase all the time and Vain Glory Opera and Kingdom Of Madness are two records that definitely make the playlist during these periods. The last "new" Edguy record I listened to was Hellfire Club which wasn't the best record ever but it was still power metal and catchy. So needless to say I went in expecting something that would sound similar to all three of those albums listed. Boy was I wrong.

Edguy seems to have called it a day with their power metal days and have decided to take on playing Arena Rock. This album is more about fist pumping than slaying dragons. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to try to recreate the glory days of 80's Hair Metal because they didn't do a good job at it. Known for being jokesters from time to time, I laughed off the first track thinking the band was up to their normal tricks. Then I quickly realized it wasn't a joke as each of the following songs stuck to the mid-tempoed formula that you'd more likely find on a Motley Crue record. They only pick up the pace for 2 songs and it's not until track 9's Speedhoven do they play anything that sounds remotely similar to the Edguy I've always known. Even that song is forgettable.

A few people might read this review and think because they like 80's Hair Metal that they'll love this record. Unless you like Black Label Society as well, you might want to think again. I've only had the displeasure of hearing a few snippets of BLS but I've heard enough that I was immediately reminded of them a good number of times throughout my joyless time listening to this record. Musically, most of this album could easily have been used as a newest Ozzy record. It's that bad.

I'm really upset that I had to hear this. I hate hearing bands that I like change into a giant pile of garbage. I only recommend this to people that want to hear something so bad that it makes them appreciate all the good records they own. Anything you listen to after listening to this will instantly sound better.

Damn it. That's really disappointing. I love older Edguy and was hoping for something along those lines.
