Review:
I always thought Darkane was always one of the overlooked bands a few years ago when the Gothenburg metal was at its peak of popularity. While genre giants like In Flames, The Haunted, and Soilwork have decided to go off in a different direction from the musical roots, Darkane stays true to their beginnings and has put out their 5th record that still shreds as hard as they did when they started.
While the whole "Swedish" metal trend has pretty much died out, Darkane still purges on in a quest of putting out solid metal that Sweden can be proud of. I think they did a great job on this new record. There isn't much to say about the music on this record. It's nothing you've never heard before but its stays on track from the beginning to the end. There is no experimentation that leads to the albums demise, much like you hear on the newer In Flames records.
This album also marks the debut of new vocalist Jens Broman. His vocals remind me a lot of ex-The Haunted frontman, Marco Aro. You can count on one hand how many times he makes an attempt at clean vocals (which aren't really all that clean). They are in such short spurts that they don't ruin any of the songs they appear in.
I enjoyed this record a lot during my listening. Like I stated before, it's nothing you've never heard before but it's still a pretty thrashing release. If you are still into a lot of the older Swedish metal records then you'll be into this. If you are over that whole genre then you won't be missing out either.
