Review:
It's awesome that there's players out there actually shredding on their instruments and being the most technically advanced performers that they can be, but at what price? With Embrace The End, it seems that they'd rather sacrifice song writing for over the top guitar work and an abundance of blast beats rather than put the time into crafting killer songs.
On this record, you'll find a couple pretty awesome riffs. The problem is that those riffs don't return after the few seconds spent hearing them. In place of memorable riffs is spastic dissonance, blast beats, and those overheard and overused breakdowns that are staples of the whole metalcore/deathcore genre. I'm sure some of you cats out there can appreciate the way these bands write their material, but I don't see the appeal of the writing methods of an ADD ridden autistic child with a guitar.
Again, these guys can play their instruments for damned sure. But if I wanted to listen to guitar wankery, I'd go throw on a Yngwie Malmsteen record. The vocals take away from all the technicality of the instruments, they seem to be the only thing on the record that is consistent, while being bland. If there was more range to fit with the spastic aspects of the album, then it might be a bit more entertaining.
The production is top notch. Every instrument cuts through clearly and the mix sits well in the ears. Now only if they'd write songs and not just parts, then this band might actually get on the right track.
