Review:
This was on of the last cds I listened to and it was by choice, based solely on the cover art which, as you can tell, looks like a logo you'd find on a tshirt in a motorcycle shop. I figured it was going to be some horrible shitball "heavy rock" bar band nonsense. Well, now I know not to judge a book by its cover.
This band reminds me so much of agents of man that its a little creepy at times. The music could be described as hardcore/metal-influenced, independent hard rock. I know that sounds horrible but its actually not that bad, I swear to you. It may take a little getting used to, but it works and it grew on me. The guitar work can be quite pounding at some points while at other points it's just simply churning out a groovy, catchy rhytm. This, from what I can pull, actually has a lot to do with the drums, because if they weren't the exact way that they are on this recording (rhytm wise AND quality wise) this whole band may not have been able to pull off this idea/sound. The vocals definitely remind me of agents of man: singing clean vocals at one point while gettin a raspier/angrier/edgier tone at different points. The vocals actually have a vast range which is something different for once, seeing as though one man can bellow out countless styles in one song, let alone one recording. Musically and vocally, this cd isn't really as "all over the place" as I make it sound, but it blends many different styles, genres, and influences to make some actual decent and catchy riffs.
The recording is phenomenal. Like I said, I expected some bar band bullshit, which means I also expected a sub-par recording but this recording is pounding. The kick drum seems to punch you in the dick so hard sometimes, along with the chugging guitar riffs coupled along with it. Excellent indeed.
This is not ground-breaking music... But it is something we don't see a lot of and when we do a lot of bands can't pull it off. This band, however, does just fine. They need to come to the tri-state area so I can see them, bang my head, and possibly mosh my peers into oblivion. Pick up this cd the second you get a chance to and be sure to check out some of their tracks listed on their myspace.
