Review:
This is another one of those bands I coulda sworn I've heard before and couldn't get into em... Once again, I must have been wrong. Either that, or this band completely changed their sound. Regardless, Fatality brings us 9 tracks of quality hardcore.
I'm really impressed with the song-writing of this recording. They got all the hardcore elements that we've come to expect from most hardcore bands but I think this is another situation where the drums make this sound a little edgier and catchier. Even the guitar work can catch you off guard sometimes... You know, you hear a part and think you can predict exactly what's going to happen next with everyone including the vocalist, and then you hear it... And its kinda what you thought it was gonna be but a lot better. I found myself doing this a lot with this cd and sometimes that little change from what would be expected can go a long way. I also found myself getting caught off-guard with how incredibly heavy some of the elements of these songs are. You simply cannot be sucked into, at the very least, banging your head.
The only downfall of this cd are, at points, the vocals. Let me explain. For the most part, I like the vocals and I think they're different from the norm we hear in this type of hardcore which is nice. The more you listen however, you could probably pick out the same parts I have where the vocalist seems a little too laid back and emotionless with his vocals. It's like he's running out of air and just doesn't have the power to really put it out there when it's so obvious in other areas of the songs that he does. This makes it inconsistent and therefor, to me, takes away from it all.
With that being said, everything else about this cd is great. The recording is damn-near perfect. Don't be afraid to turn the volume up to level 10 but don't be surprised when those breaks come and blow your fucking head off your shoulders. The vocals balance themselves out in my book, with sounding different with this type of hardcore and making it work but on the other hand seeming to be inconsistent. I can't wait for the next release from this band, because this is gonna be a hard one for them to top. Be sure to pick this cd up and check it out. Tingle wouldn't steer you wrong... Unless your name is wild steve. Xoxo.
