Review:
Behemoth did me, and anyone else that plans on reviewing this album, a favor. It seems that they are taking the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" approach when it comes to writing albums. Dating back to 1999's Satanica, Poland's finest has demonstrated a near perfect blend of black and death metals that is beyond massive. The name Behemoth definitely fits their musical styling now.
As I stated, the band hasn't done much to change their material. With the exception of a few parts here and there that seem to be heavily influence by the Middle East, it's basically just a continuation from any of the previous albums. Even the Egyptian parts aren't near as prominent an element as it was on the last record, The Apostasy. Vocally the Negrel still sounds amazing. He reminds me a lot of Piotr Wiwczarek of Vader but more evil. Come to think of it Behemoth in general reminds me of Vader.
For me, I'm happy that the band is sticking to this formula. They have enough material that I can put in any of their albums on any random track and know what I'm getting and know that I'll be satisfied with what I'm about to listen to. However, this won't necessarily work for everyone. Some folks will want some form of progression with the band. A little something new to add to the mix. But unfortunately for them, they won't be getting it with this newest Behemoth record.
Since the band opted to continue where they left off with the last record, there isn't much more to be said about this. This is definitely a safe purchase if you are a fan of albums like The Apostasy and Demigod. If you prefer their earlier straight black metal releases than this album is not for you. It's also not for you if you expect and/or want to hear something new.
It's way better than the Apostasy. I'm liking it more with each listen. I don't think this album is overproduced at all. The sound is perfect. Also, dude's name is Nergal or just call him Adam. I recently read something about how he's qualified to be a museum curator. For some reason that's humorous to me.
