CUT YOUR LOSSES

'Where's Your God Now?'

Similar Bands:
Death Before Dishonor, Hatebreed, Terror

Review:
It's becoming rare that I find hardcore bands that I can really get down with. I never wanted to become one of those nostalgia type folks that just reminisce about the old days but sadly I'm starting to fall into that category. So for me I get pretty stoked on finding new hardcore bands that some how catch my ear and peak my interest.

Enter Oklahoma's Cut Your Losses and their EP "Where's Your God Now?" This is the first time I've been introduced to the band and I'm pretty impressed with them. The sticker on the packaging said "For fans of Hatebreed and Terror". While they aren't a clone of either band I definitely can hear the influence with both. I think Hatebreed and Terror were chosen because those bands would stick out more to people rather, than say, Death Before Dishonor or even Barricade. Take some of the thrash licks from Terror, the groove of Hatebreed, some of the more straight forward parts from DBD, and the old school influenced creepy crawl parts of Barricade and you'll get Cut Your Losses.

Now while that all sounds great don't get ahead of yourselves, the band seems to have taken a lot riffs that were left over from the previous bands mentioned. There is nothing that this band does that is original but for some reason I don't mind it this time around. I tend to hate when I hear bands do something I've heard countless amounts of times. I guess it's a situation of catching me at the right time but regardless I'll be hanging onto this record instead of tossing it in the garbage with a lot of the terrible albums I'm faced with reviewing.

If you are fans of straight-forward mosh worthy hardcore then you'll like this band. The chug isn't overdone and there is enough old school influenced parts to keep everyone happy. The album isn't mindblowing but it's definitely a solid record. I hope to see the band come through the area sometime. I wouldn't mind checking them out.
