Well, before I really jump into giving this CD a review, I want to apologize to the band From This Day Forward, because the reason that I love this CD is the four tracks from Grace Like Winter. I don't want people to think that FTDF isn't any good, because they are really good. But whenever I've finished listening to GLW, I end up skipping back to listen to them again. So basically, I don't know much about the FTDF stuff. So again I'm sorry.
Anyhow, here's my review of Grace Like Winter.
They're a metal-hardcore-punk-emo-noise- band from Winnepeg, Manitoba Canada. Fronted by two female vocalists (Jacqui and Tanner), and this release can be found on Raising the Roof Records.
I'm telling you, the four songs on this comp. by GLW are absolute hardcore mastery. I think that if you're a fan of Dillinger Escape Plan, Shai Hulud, Walls of Jericho, Zao, Eso-Charis, .hopesfall. you'd really love this band. They are very talented in all aspects of their music. From off time drumming, beautiful songwriting, insane guitar and very mature screaming/singing. These aren't the kind of girls who seem like their pissed off because it's their "time of the month" as I've heard it crudely put. They have conviction, style and grace to the way they put screaming to lyrics.
They are a Christ centered band, but I really hope that doesn't put you off if you're not a Christian, because that would be a shame. They are really going somewhere as a hardcore outfit, and I hope to see them get the respect they deserve.
I think the most moving song on the album is their last one before FTDF appears, it's called Grace. It is so pumped with conviction and to hear Tanner (I think it's her anyway) scream "What have I done my God?", I get chills. But all of their songs are of equal calibre. Check them out.
FTDF is an emo band out of Winnepeg, but seem to have a new skool punk influence, They're talented as well, but like I said I don't know much about them. So
