Sumac, one of the most talked about new bands from 2015 featuring the impressive lineup of Aaron Turner on guitar (ISIS, Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer), Nick Yacyshyn on drums (Baptists), and Brian Cook on bass (Russian Circles), have confirmed a tour of the western portion of North America this February and March. These shows mark the first for the band in 2016 and follow their tour this past fall alongside Neurosis and Brothers of the Sonic Cloth. Sumac will be joined by Endon and Black Spirituals for these February and March shows.
Sumac released their debut LP The Deal last February on Profound Lore (Cd/Digital) and SIGE (vinyl), which rekindled Turner's classic Hydra Head Records forward-thinking sound and feel. The Deal received great critical acclaim; Revolver Magazine called it "…huge, crushing, and very down-to-earth and organic", and About said the album's "…monstrous, heaving riffs are so heavy it's not even fair", and has made countless 'Best Of' lists for 2015.
This past November, Sumac recorded a new LP - 5 songs at 59 minutes - with Kurt Ballou. The yet-to-be-titled album was tracked at The Unknown in Anacortes, WA, mixed at God City in Salem, MA and will be released in mid 2016. More news soon - for now, see Sumac on the road:
