Unveil the Strength frontman Mark Haggblad explains:
“I was actually trying out for a band in LA and part of the process was submitting a demo of this song. I really wanted to think outside the box and do something totally different so I found this piano version by Sean Townsend and it was just mind blowing. At that point I didn’t care about anything except making this intimate version of a modern classic and to pay respect.”
Sometimes in life unusual circumstances transforms people into something beyond what they had anticipated. For frontman and founder Haggblad, he infused much of his past experiences into what has become Unveil The Strength. This is more than just passion. This is a way of life and a mindset he discovered and slowly built into creating a movement to helping the voiceless of this world.
Prior to starting his musical venture, he served in the United States Marine Corp for six years and served in Iraq. While much of his experiences from that era of his life factored into what is Unveil The Strength today, he later used his love of heavy music to help others.
“Unveil The Strength isn't something I wanted to do, It’s something I had to do, it’s who I am. Music saved my life. Music has always been a way for me to cope with things I've never understood. I am a Combat veteran. I have PTSD. I have suffered from depression [and] anxiety, I've been homeless, I’ve been surrounded by nine doctors, barely breathing on the table with no answers, and I battle an undiagnosed neurological disorder. Everything Unveil The Strength stands for is persevering through adversity. Every word written, every image, and every song has a purpose. It has to.”
The band has been through various incarnations since originally beginning in 2012, with guitarists Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper, WeStartWars, Iron Maidens) and Dave DeLa Cruz (Silent Civilian) were notable players who took part in the early years.
Aside from the band, Haggblad has built an extensive career having music placed for television and film, such as in the movie Legion (Sony Pictures), and Make it or Break it (ABC Family), The Bridge (AMC), CSI (CBS-TV), and Criminal Minds (CBS-TV).
Haggblad has since collaborated with guitarist and producer/engineer Robert Kukla, where they recorded their first single “Vengeance and the Misery” at Studio Haga in Gothenburg, Sweden. The song itself is the first of many upcoming in a series of singles to be released, and features a guest guitar solo from Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry) and guest drums by Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Megadeth). Mixing work was performed by Henrick Udd (Bring Me The Horizon, At The Gates, Architects) at Henrickand Udd, and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Enslaved, Kreator, Dragonforce) at Fascination Street Studios.
