Spotlights, the husband-and-wife “sludgegazers” (Brooklyn Vegan) who release their Ipecac debut, Seismic, on Oct. 6, are streaming the album via Sound Cloud.

“Seismic came out of a reaction to the current state of humanity and the inevitable consequences we will have on this earth and ourselves,” explains Mario. “There's an odd sense of beauty that comes with destruction, and we tried to capture that musically on this album.” Seismic was produced by Aaron Harris (Isis/Palms) and recorded this spring in Los Angeles. Pre-orders for the 11-track album are available now:

Spotlights have spent the summer on the road with the Melvins, joining the venerable band for their 12-week North American tour. The LA Record said of the Spotlight’s kick off performance: “The husband-wife duo of Mario and Sarah Quintero (guitar and bass, respectively) dabble in a mix of electronic dream-pop and heavier-than-hell sludge metal, putting them alongside Jesu or Hum as extremists of both beauty and brutality.“ The tour’s last two dates are this week, followed by a hometown show with Pelican on Oct. 6 at the Brooklyn Bazaar.

Spotlights’ previous release, Tidals, earned the band a wide sweep of accolades, with reviewers describing the band’s unique sound as “ultra-dense dream-rock” (Clrvynt) and “having the heft of an anvil and the hazy atmosphere of a half-forgotten dream” (Culture Creature). Word-of-mouth about the intoxicating album led to the band being handpicked to join Deftones and Refused for their Summer 2016 tour.
