Has anyone ever tried this with any success? My shit's capped at 120 down/30 up. I'm relatively certain that I could uncap it, but I'm still afraid that I'll fuck something up and render the modem useless (and I really don't care to blow another $100 on a new one.)

have you already determined if the ISP limits bandwidth at their end? if they just limit it via the customer hardware (which is idiotic but occassionally you'll find a place you can still get away with it), that's not so hard but some models are very difficult if not impossible to mod. if you look around google you'll find a list of "uncap friendly" modems and see if it'll work with your service.

however, the cost of a modem would be the least of your worries, since ISPs actively monitor for abuse. they will eventually find you.

all in all, it's a pain in the ass and it doesn't have a great chance of success, and if it does you're in peril of legal actions.
