So, a few said "I broke edge" because of this, but more than 75% of my friends smoke cigarettes and whenever they can't get out, or still on clock at my work, or whatever, they ask me to buy a pack for them. If they are of age I will, but I do something good out of it. When they give me money for it, I ask for like 2-3 dollars extra for doing them the favor. I use 1 dollar for my gas and the other 1 or 2 dollars I have left I donate to charity, such as the Red Cross, some local "non-kill" animal shelters, or to some of the charities at the natural food market I go to. I know I shouldn't be getting cigarettes for my friends when the ask ne too, but if I don't buy it for them, THEY WILL when their shift is over! I figure it'd be better for me to just go ahead and buy it for them, so I can do something positive with it! What do you all think?

Let them get them themselves. I wouldn't buy anyone cigerettes, you either agree with people smoking, or you don't.
If you want to help a charity, donate your time to them, instead of running for cigerettes to aid in keeping your friends supplied with drugs.
Smokers can't breath, and they stink!!

I don't agree with ME smoking. I don't like the fact that people close to me do, but I can't stop them, it's their live and I can't tell them what to do. I donate money because I don't have time to donate because I'm using it all to work. I work almost everyday most of the time doing double shifts! I'm not a drug supplier in any sort, if I don't get it for them, they will!!! I feel its better that I get it for them and squeeze some charitable money out of them, than have them just go buy it and don't donate at all! ...yeah, I know a dollar for gas won't get me far, but the dollar amounts can add up!

I wouldn't say you broke edge because of it, I just wouldn't want anything to do with them myself.

...and when you get them for them, make sure that you remind them that they are killing themselves, and that they are being controlled by the cigerette industry.

I am sorry that you love to smoke and drink so much. No I am not trying to belittle anyone. I just feel that if someone is going to assist in their friends smoking, that they could at least remind them that it is going to kill them. I would feel horrible if I had a friend that smoked get cancer and die after I went to pick up their cigerettes for them. It's not about being better, or any of that bullshit you cry about. That is all just denial, you know just as well as anyone else that it is not healthy for you to smoke. Phillip Morris doesn't care if you die, sorry.

We don't ask them to care. We ask them to make cigarettes for us.

Oh and by the way, I always tell everyone I care about, that smoke, that they should quit and it is bad for them. So far it seems to be working, a few have quit, I'd like to think I helped make up their minds anyway. I certainly can't take all the credit. It seems to be an awefully hard thing to do. It doesn't hurt to remind them though, maybe they will realize they need to quit before it's too late.

hey andre's pet:

everyone knows the risks. You are wrong. You say smoking WILL kill you. Fact is, it MAY. My great aunt is 84 years old, has been smoking 2 packs a day since she was a teenager, and is in perfect health. So to say that they absolutely will kill you is wrong. If you want to discuss health risks and facts and whatnot, learn what you are talking about. Nicotine is not Cyanide. That's why it's called a health RISK and not a death sentence.

That's funny you should say that. I had a great aunt that lived till she was 83 yrs old. She just got diagnosed last Dec. with lung cancer, she died in Jan. It was aweful sudden. She had stopped smoking in her late 70's, a little too late I guess. We miss her terribly. She was a wonderful woman. I wish she had quit earlier in her life, or better yet never smoked. She didn't even seem to really be a heavy smoker. But it did finally kill her. I know that some people go through their whole lives smoking and it doesn't kill them, but it does in some way effect their health and the people around them. Do you know that cyanide is one of the chemicals found in cigerettes, along with about a hundred others. I don't see it being worth the risk. What are the benefits of smoking? It's just plain stupid.

The point is...

It's a health RISK.
EVERYBODY knows this.
Just because YOU don't see it being worth the risk, you can't make decisions for others.
Just because people disagree, it does not mean that they are ignorant to the risks.

Duh, I know I can't make decisions for others. If I could she wouldn't be dead, and no one would smoke.
It is ignorant because anyone who wants to stop can if they want to bad enough. It's ignorant to start in the first place. It's not just me disagreeing either.
