umm false. I think the program I have at home is called copypod or something like that. just search for "ipod music extraction freeware" on google and you'll find something.
also, it will extract the files to itunes format (.m4a) so if you want to play them in Windows media player or whatever you have to find a freeware audio converter. if you just want to put them right back into ITunes and onto your ipod after you restore it, you don't ned to convert them.
if you upgrade to the newest winamp, you can do it from there as well

we want to buy a mp3 player but isn't ipod just a name? couldn't we get just the same tecnology in something cheaper like sony or what have you? and doesn't ipod only take m4a files?
yes, ipod is apples mp3 player. i owned two creative zen older models which both died, both times they were dropped so its not a reliability issue, its just a fucktard drunk dropped one and my one buddy knocked the other off my desk. once the second one died i was already using a mac and it was a pain in the ass to put songs on the creative with freeware crap software someone wrote to make it mac compatible so i switched to an ipod.
got a mac - ipod is really the only choice if you want things to easy.
got a PC - get a creative.
