anyone have a family tree or take the time to research their ancestors?

also, what websites are good and free?

i don't know of any free ones, usually ancestry lookups are a very expensive process because they take so long.

that being said, i've never researched my ancestry, which is so complicated that i don't think i'd want to anyway. my family is from all over eastern Europe.

i know my family tree traces back to Sir Christopher Wren. Chances are if you see an older building in England it was designed by him.

I've always wanted to do this but it's hard because the people that knew the most are already dead. Bummer.

my dad wrote the brickhouse family history. 11,000 people dating back to 1655. i imported it into ancestry.com, and am trying to figure out how to share it with you guys.

you have no idea how much work he put into this shit. he dug around in graveyards, courthouses, records, and has talked to every single old person in virginia. it took him over 15 years to compile all this data. i feel as if it's my duty to keep this shit up to date.

if you're not going to be dedicated to it don't even bother, honestly. even to put something together that goes back 4 generations takes a ton of work.

my grandmother has books and books and books of the stuff that she's collected over the years. but that's just her side of the family. it seriously takes YEARS to even make a dent. and then something comes up and you find out that your aunt wasn't really your aunt and you have to start all over.

I know some people do ancestry research for you.

Is it the Mormon? can't remember. Of course it's going to cost a good load of money but it's worth because it's a good hand down for your kids and future generations.

mormons are obsessed with lineage. my dad worked with several of them for information. it's like a weird cult, genealogy.
