I can't tell which ones, if any, are not made of leather. Do they make any certain ones?

not wanting to be the dickhead here but I find it rather amusing vegans repping Nike in the first place, while its not okay to slaughter animals for food its okay to support a company that thrives on underpaid laborers and overall terrible human treatment.

i was going to say pretty much the same thing. you're all about respecting animals you should not be wearing something that is a product of human exploitation.

I would have said this, but I get berated, so I didn't open this thread 'til after I knew it would have already been said. Word.

if a guy was trying to rape you would you just sit there and let him do it? or would you atleast attempt to fight him off you? now what if say MJ was getting raped right in front of you...would you resort to violence to help her or would you just sit there?

if you would just sit there if you were getting raped you have no self respect...and if you were to sit there when a friend was in trouble you are not a good friend.

I've stated this before, and I'll say it again. Even if it was my mom, MJ or myself in danger, I would not intentionally hurt a raper. I would try to put myself between that person and my mother or MJ, but I would not purposefully inflict harm on the person with force. I may roll a ball at their feet so they have trouble chasing us, or slam a door in the person's face, but I could not use force to inflict harm.
You claim to be open-minded, Wren, but this is a perfect example that you aren't. You are so sure that because I would only stop my own rape with wiggling, pushing and screaming, I don't have self respect. I, like many monks, many Quakers and many other humans on this planet, believe that the ultimate form of self-respect is human respect because we are all connected, and that any harm I do to another is disrespecting myself. I believe that it is just as disrespectful of myself to hurt another as it is to harm myself. Another person hurting me is their soul and karma's problem, not my own. If my rape can stop the world from experiencing that pain (bc someone else doesn't get raped, bc that dude goes to jail, bc I set some kind of example that keeps another woman from going down that dark alley) that is the greatest thing I can do because of my self respect and life respect.

I am a good friend, Wren, you have no idea because we're not friends. MJ knows this about me and still chooses to be my friend, so it's really none of your business. I'd be a bad friend if I let MJ believe I'd protect her and then when it came down to it, I didn't help her. Long before we ever get into a risky situation, however, my friends and family know where I stand ad respect it. If they don't respect it, they aren't called my "friend" or my "family". (I haven't lost anyone due to these beliefs yet.)

Definitely. I want to get a pair from the Nike ID site where the back of one says "Schwarze" and the back of the other says "negger". Those are like $100 though, and both of my pairs were $50.

Most of the current models of running shoes are synthetic material of some sort (mostly nylon) the free+ is the most common. You can also find a mostly nylon Cortez in most foot lockers.

its really not for any of you to tell a vegan how to be vegan, nor is it written anywhere that a desire to end the suffering of animals must necessarily relate to a desire to better the lives of humans. two different things.

It does raise a certain inconsistency, though. If you're vegan out of compassion for all living things, why doesn't that include humans? Especially humans who are being exploited by these corporations that you want to give your money to?

It's like a vegan buying a salad from McDonald's. Yeah, no animal died to make your salad, but you're still giving money to a company who kills thousands of animals a day.

I hate Nike for the simple reason that their shoes are always too goddamned narrow. I have to buy a size 14 to fit my width. Give me New Balance 12-4E for sneakers any day.
