I have these:

they work and feel fine, and noise-canceling the works. I think I paid $60-80 for them.

obviously earbuds are a bit more subtle, but I sort of hate them.

i have some noise cancelling earbuds and love them but don't know what brand they are, i did question getting skull candy ones though but was convinced that they were junk

Get yourself a pair of recruits or scouts if you are riding.

I have earcandy ear buds. They sound fine, audiophiles are usually people that belive that expensive equals better, but its not like the sk ones aren't good.

These are what I'm rockin.

Phillips SHE9500 Ultra Sound.

I tried the Bose, and I love these ones a lot more. Perfect for heavy music and hip-hop. The internal bass driver is awesome. And they cancel all outside noise. They only cost around 25-35 bucks too.

I got the Lowriders in white / red. They sound 1,000 time better than my stock ipod buds. I might pick up some ear buds for riding too. I'm not sure I would want to hit the mountain with these larger headphones. I find them so much more comfortable than ear buds though. Thanks for the feedback. So far so good.

The lowriders will work fine. You can throw the goggles over them pretty easy. I've rode with them.
