I was trying to make some pumpkin pies yesterday, and my roommate warned me there was a pumpkin shortage in the US.

Guess she was right, because now I'm stuck with 2 cans of sweet potato pie filling. Fuckers.

I was going to try and pull one over on mike, but I decided to be honest and let him know it wasn't pumpkin. He was not pleased.

If any of you find pumpkin, let me know.

Wegmans had cans of organic pumpkin. It was expensive but thats all I've been able to find this year.

I usually use homemade puree. Wal-Mart and a local farm stand both have pie pumpkins out already... so I'm good to go. It really doesn't add too much extra work, especially if you make a bunch at once and freeze it.

If you go that route, just make sure you have an immersion blender or quality food processor at your disposal, because mashing it by hand leaves clumps and doing it in a blender is mission impossible
