take a cab to milwaukee/north/damen. it's all one intersection, go on any street in any direction, and you will find food, music, shopping, etc. you only have a day, so it's a fun area to explore. take milwaukee a little south and you will end up on division, also has some decent places but not enough for a day.

kuma's is good but always a long wait and not really near anything else, unless you want to spend the entire day/night on belmont. some good book stores and record shops, plus halsted is fun (lots-o-gays and sex shops). this can easily take up a day but probably not your scene at nighttime. i'd head back into the area i mentioned above for dinner and hanging out.

navy pier will make you want to hurt others. really. plus, not near anything else.
