I have not played video games in years. And the last thing I played on was a GameCube. I am totally out of the loop on that kind of technology. What are the differences in Xbox, PS, etc. And what is the preferred system? If there is already a thread regarding this shit, direct me to it. Aka I am a lazy asshole.

That was my original plan but I have an opportunity to purchase a brand new Xbox with Kinect or whatever for $150. Buuut the fact that you have to pay yearly annoys me.

also, no super mario or mario kart

obviously the graphics on xbox and playstation are way better, but the wii was designed for fun

I love my xbox with kinect. and if you wait long enough to buy the membership after your gold trial expires, you can get deals on the yearly price. I got mine for $30 last year.

i have an xbox, a ps3, and a wii.
i would recommend the xbox over the others, but the ps3 isn't a bad choice.

i pretty much only use my xbox for netflix anymore and since all 3 now have that capability, i could probably be just as happy with any of them.

Love my PS3. So does my 7 year old daughter.

Little Big Planet is what's up when it comes to kids.

also, the wii used to be the leader in family fun, but with the kinect feature, i think the xbox now has the upper hand.

But Chris, isn't the Kinect similar to Wii? Just no remote or whatever? Most opinions I have gotten were in favor of the Xbox. And since I can get it for so cheap, that is probably the route I will go. Thanks for the tip, Steph. What about extra memory and all that though?

My oldest is only four, so I'm not sure to what extent she will be using this anyway. Primarily, my boyfriend wants to kill zombies. I want to make this happen for Christmas. I should have added that as well.

you only need to pay yearly on xbox if you are going to play games online. which is certainly not a requirement.

you don't need to worry about memory unless you're downloading tons of game demos, movie trailers, saving tons of games, etc.
i have a 4gb model and it suits me fine.

Unless you're a huge gamer, you don't really need it. I got the 4GB a year ago and haven't even come close to using half of that yet.

kinect is similar to the wii, both have a remote. you'd probably be happy with either. i personally enjoy wii games more, due to my love of mario.

That's what I would be getting - the 4gb Xbox +K. I mean, for 50% off... Anyway, sounds like I have the confirmation I needed. I am going to feel like a handicapped person at first when I attempt to play.

Also, I'll sell you my Call of Duty- Black Ops game so you can kill zombies. I played it like 10 times and I'm awful at it. It's collecting dust now. $20

I would love to have Mario too, but I can always resort to my GC for that. When Michael and I moved in together, we each had a stupid GameCube.

kinect doesn't have a remote, the xbox does, but when the kinect mode is on, the controller isn't used, it's all movement and voice commands.

Based on everything I've read that you want out of a system, the Xbox with the Kinect is the best option.

All 3 consoles have the motion sensor capability but the Xbox definitely took it to the next level by eliminating the controller completely. Playstation Move is basically the Wii for PS3 and looks stupid.

The whole thing about paying for a subscription to XBL is nothing really. I pay $50 a year and it gets taken out of my credit card every January 5th. I don't even have to worry about it. Sure PSN is free but it doesn't come anywhere close to matching that of XBL. Plus, XBL hasn't been hacked yet. PSN has been hacked a few times.

Xbox also has the much better catalog for games and even the Kinect catalog is starting to grow rapidly.

There are definitely arguments for all 3. We have a Wii and it's fun to play the Mario games but my fascination with that console really dies at that. There aren't enough Mario games out there to really warrant me getting that involved with it. It's better suited for Dianna, who is not a gamer, that just wants to play silly easy games. And because it's Nintendo, the violent games are very limited because Nintendo prides itself on being more for kids. So Mike won't be happy with that.

Playstation has some bad ass games like Resistence and God Of War and has a really good blu-ray player in it, but I still feel that Xbox has the better options for games and more people I know have an Xbox so that means more people to play online with.

I could have summed it up by just saying get the Xbox with the Kinect because it's pretty much like owning an Xbox and a Wii at the same time. Just no Mario.

Also, when you have xbox live, you can download old games like Sonic and FUCKING GAUNTLET and play them forever. Also, Netflix (even though everyone is getting rid of it).

That was informative. Which is awesome, because that is what I wanted; someone to compare for me.hah

1) I didn't even know PS had 'PS Move', which further proves how ignorant I am to a lot of this.
2) The PS blu-ray player was a serious positive for the system, but I'd have to pay extra $ anyway if I bought the system as opposed to the Xbox offer.
3) I am obviously not a gamer, so the Wii is attractive to me for easy/fun but you are correct in saying Mike would not be happy with that because...minimal violence.
