look, here is my view on cops, and by this I am thinking of the way i think things should be and should not be. I am not going to offer judgement on all police, because police are individuals and cannot be rightly judged as a collective.

That being said I think police are put in a stupid position right now. In many places the focus is on the safety of police, while their compensation is sometimes generous but often slight.

I think this should be the exact opposite.

Police should be generously compensated. To an embarrassing degree. Being a police officer should hold the possibility of eventually becoming rich. I am being serious here, these individuals are so essential to our well being they should be exceedingly and excessively compensated, and that compensation should be related to some extent to performance.

That being said they should also be held to an almost impossible standard. Any abuse case should result in immediate dismissal. They should be constantly monitored, and honest and patient police should be rewarded and those that thrive on power should be punished.
Even more I never, ever, ever want to hear anyone concerned about police safety again. ever. THE ROLE OF POLICE DEMANDS THEY BE UNSAFE! Thats the fucking point. Make them rich, give them extravagant benefits, make them princes among men. Of course also mourn when they die or are injured, yes it is a tragedy. However, allowing abuse and mismanagement in order to allow them to feel safer is utterly ridiculous. Being a police officer is unsafe. Should we offer them every safety net along the lines of equipment and administrative support? of course!! Yet, police safety should never trump citizens rights for anything at all. ever.

maybe that makes me crazy but thats what i think
