I'd love a TP, but since we want to buy furniture and other stuff besides a bed, we don't want to spend more than a grand on a mattress (queen). We have a bed frame and something to use under it.

Anyone have good experiences with a mattress in this general price range?

When it comes to mattresses, you really have to try them out yourself. It's like assholes trying to tell you what beer or wine you should be drinking.

As much as I love my Tempur-Pedic, I have heard from a ton of people that hate them. It's a different type of mattress. Dianna gave the best advice. You have to try them out yourself. I've heard good things about Sleep Number but they can be pricey as well.

If a TP is something you'd really like, I'd suggest going to R&F and trying them out there. You can finance it and it's 0% interest if you pay it off in 3 years.

We got our new bed from JC Penney. They have a lot of reasonably priced sets, I think ours was $800 regular priced before the discount we got on it. It's a posturepedic pillow top and it is amazing.

I don't like Tempur-Pedics at all. I got a standard queen size mattress from sleepy's for $329. It was a labor day sale, but still. and it's comfortable and about two years old. Kyle says it's comfortable as well. I have one of those pillow tops mattress covers on it, but it's thin.

Sleep number beds seem to get a lot of negative response but my mom has one and it is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on (and it's about 15 years old).

We will probably go for memory foam. I actually miss the old $300 mf Ikea mattress we used to have.
Now we have this huge, plush, super soft, pillow top bed that I want to burn to the ground.

Too much pillow top is never ok.

I love my tempur-pedic. I think it was worth the money. I sleep so hard on that thing. Just go to the Dump and lay on everything.

The softness of your bed is supposed to be inversely proportional to your body weight-the heavier you are the firmer you want and vice versa.

That said, I really enjoy Ikea mattresses and they're always on sale

July 4th is my birthday. Think they'll give me an extra ~5% off for being special?
