Storming forth from New Jersey comes Angmar, a 4-piece blackened melodic death metal band who, I must say, puts on a great live show. This four-song self-titled EP is produced well and showcases their ability to forge a dark, brooding sound. All of the elements are laid bare, there is nothing to distract you from the power of the music.

Angmar have done something that many bands have tried so hard at, and yet miss the mark on. To combine the Slayer style of thrash with a melodic, Swedish death metal sound might seem easy and natural but few bands hit the balance just right. It seems to come effortlessly for Angmar, who aren't above throwing in a few black metal riffs in there to keep it atmospheric and grim.

I usually don't have much to say about EP's but I think this one is really decent, and I have a lot of high hopes for this band. They're young and they've got a lot of skill and talent. Looking forward to seeing where they go.
