After listening to this album for several weeks, it was still hard to make a decision on whether or not I liked the album. As matter of fact, I'm listening to it right now and still trying to decide what to make of it. Over all, its a pretty good album. The guitar tracks are done amazingly well and the drums take on a life of their own and really set the music apart. The songs are fast and somewhat catchy, with plenty of break downs and melodic parts to keep any thrasher moving along with the beat.
One thing that does bring “War of Will”down is the vocals. Dual vocalist battle it out with their ultra heavy screams and yells, while the main singer does all the higher growls and yells, the other one goes a bit deeper and we often are treated to both vocalist at the same time. It actually sounds pretty good, the only down fall to this album IS the vocals. I know I said it sounds pretty good, but at the same time, its hard to tell one song from the next as the vocals all pretty much sound the same. It seems as though the two screamers are flat and just sort of repeating themselves. Every vocal intro sounds about the same, the chorus, the main rhythm- I mean, its really hard to differentiate one song from the next because the vocals are so... bland, I guess you could say.
The saving grace here though, is the music. The music remains solid and tight, the guitars are everywhere and the drums, like I said earlier, take on a life of their own and really hold the music together, well that and the awesome guitar playing make this a good album, unfortunatly though, it could be great, if only our growling vocalists would just break the monotony.
Over all, if your a huge fan of the band ( I believe this is their 2nd album) than you'll prob want to pick this up, if your a fan of killer Thrash and would like to hear some amazing music, than I would suggest this album, but if your looking for the total Thrash package, I would look somewhere else, and I really hate saying that, based alone that the music is so good, but the vocals, they just drag the music down a few notches and make it a bit unbearable to sit through the entire album.
Keep in mind, I listened to this album so many times, The first time I fell in love with it. I was like “Wow, this is really heavy stuff!” Then it just casually started sounding the same, witch is a real bummer, I really wanted to like this album a lot more than I did. But sometimes no matter how bad you want to like, you just cant force yourself to.
