When Outer Heaven hit my ears, it was like I was listening to Incantation and early Entombed make a baby while a hardcore band watched. It was refreshing and unique without trying too hard. It did what demos are meant to do, showcase the beginnings of a band and hopefully leave the listener wanting more. They knocked that out of the park and I'm back for my second yelling in their new release, Diabolus Vobiscum.
The band's music is still marrying their demo sounds, but it seems to be experimenting with weed because it opens with an awesome stoner riff. However, it still has it's foot solidly planted in doomy death metal. This stuff would make Incantation blush.
Diabolus Vobiscum is a banger start to finish. Before you know it, it's over. It's a very quick listen at 21 minutes. Again, it leaves the listener wanting more. I need more old school dooming death metal with a goddamm angry demon bellowing in a cave while some hardcore gets sprinkled in. There's even some post rock in here! Talk about an awesome orgy of sounds.
Outer Heaven may be fairly new, but they play like seasoned pros. The best part is, this is still their early creations. They're hopefully only going to get better as they progress.
