yeah b.! i just talked to this guy named tyler in my math class & we talked about how he just moved from north carolina and he loves the outerbanks and rodanthe and all this stuff! i exploded and was like "OMG ME AND MY BOYFRIEND ARE GOING TO GO THERE" and hes like 'cool... hahahhha'

hmmm greek people give gifts &/or food when they go to someones house, no matter if it is a big deal or not. greek people LOVE giving more than recieving, they're brought up to find happiness in that. greek people eat a lot of fish and vegetables and fruits, that are caught/grown in greece. this is why a lot of greek people are very healthy. they have plenty of sunlight because of the warm mediterrenean climate, umm they eat really well, like most of europe that doesnt have all the junky food that america has! hm, and greek people are mostly greek orthodox (I AM!) and religion is very important to them. greek families go to church every sunday and religious holidays call for huge celebrations, kids get outta school for like a month during easter and christmas!!! & basically businesses can get the better hand of this because they can make money off of 'necessities' for these holidays...

ps i hope this is kiiiinda what youre looking for ♥ hahaha i love you. ill keep going: ummm greek people are very proud of their heritage, like i said. and are mostly neutral with like countries around them, except for turkey. turkey & greece fought over an island called sparta a long time ago, and turkey 'won' it even though it was greek territory. but other than that greeks hold hardly any grudges. greek people are very open, they wear their emotions on their sleeves, like italians. they always say that people from france and england are cold people and that italians and greeks are romantics, and i think this is verrrry true...

But other than in 2004: as ive said before, the greek culture has a lot to do with agriculture such as the fruits & veggies & oil & olive oil & farming.. and even more so to do with family run businesses. there are tons and tons of small businesses there, not like huge walmart, taco bell type of chain stores and restaurants. most people own a business or are a part of / work for a family ran business. this can include fishing, grocerystores, vespas, handmade jewelery and clothing.. cotton is big becasue there are still shepards with sheep that stay on the sides of mountains in small towns by the ocean in greece....

Although a like 1/5 or 6 people are immigtants to Greece, the Greek culture is really present.. Greek people are very proud of what they do, their families and their heritage. I was thinking about it, and I forgot something about the culture that definetly had a huge impact on the economy and businesses... in 2004 Greece held the summer olympics. but there came good and bad from that i think, people put a lot of money into making olympic related things & like, actually holding it there. the government would have also had to put large investmets into the olympics. but this was also made up for by the tourism Greece had that summer, I thinnnk that more good came from this than bad....

yeah! basically i said it on the last page.. mostly religion affects the culture. and the small family based companies as well: because families in greece are so tightly knit and important to each family member-- traditions and respect for elders is a value. because of this, i think the small companies thrive in greece--- businesses are mostly small family companies. (im repeating myself hahah!) greece has hardly any chain stores other than mcdonalds and those chain restuarants that america introduced to greece. most businesses are small & family ran. bottom line hahah ♥ ok i might have more if you ask me to expand on something? loooove youuuu

hm ok let me say what i know but then ill ask my mom because she'll know how to say this better. but basically i think the culture is based a lot around religion. almost everyone in greece is greek orthodox, and it's a sort of strict religion. i think this affects business a lot, because everyone sort of has the same mindset of what you need and what you just want. & i also think it affects because like, for holidays lots of people go all out-- if you owned a business for something to do with easter or christmas (which are the biggest celebrations of the year) you'd probably be in good shape, because everyone there would 'need' those things, whatever they are....

and tourism, like you mentioned. my cousins own a hotel and they;re doing really well, the culture isnst really based around tourism but because they get so much tourism i think the greek people have started changing professions in order to feed off of that-- like, they know what the tourists want and perhaps change jobs for that reason. but hm, let me ask my mom i bet she'll have a much better answer.

okay sweetheart &hearts; so here are some of the things i could come up with, i hope this is what you mean. this is basically what my yaya was obsessed with when she came and what my mom said, hmm ok so!:
1) automatic cars... the majority in greece are stick shift
2) peanut butter
3) dry iced tea.. like the kind where you add water. my mom tooks so much over to give to my relatives she says it sells like cocaine hahah!
4) hot dogs hahah believe it or not!
5) house insurance, they only have car insurance!!!
6) athletic-wear companies. they have like nike and things, but a lot of my relatives ask for adidas swishy pants and things from here. but yeah, thats not as good of one as the other five. hahah!
